Education activities review: August 2-7

August 8, 2010

Summer public education

This week’s Kachemak Bay: Driven by Tides Discovery Labs (3) were very popular, with 301 visitors joining us to learn about tides in Kachemak Bay and beyond.

A special thanks goes to staff and volunteers from the Pratt Museum and Lake Clark National Park for joining us this week. We invite you to visit Islands & Ocean next week for the last series of summer Discovery Labs: Salt Marshes: Our Salmon Nurseries.

54 visitors enjoyed this week’s Estuary Hikes with Carmen and Jessica.

22 visitors from all over the U.S joined Catie for a Beach Walk on Friday.

Public events

Last night’s New Exhibit Open House here at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center was very well attended, with 129 people celebrating and viewing our recently installed exhibits and new Kachemak Bay movie. Catie Bursch’s incredible talents, eye for details, and patience truly helped make these wonderful exhibits what they are – an outstanding connection to our research and the Research Reserve itself! We especially appreciate the dedication to this project’s completion of KBRR Community Council member Will Files and former Community Council member Representative Paul Seaton. It was wonderful that ADF&G Sport Fish Director Charlie Swanton, ADF&G Sport Fish Assistant Director Lisa Evans, and USFWS Chief of Refuges (and former AK Maritime NWR Manager) Greg Siekaniec could join us for this special event.
