December 15, 2010

Education collaborations

Carmen participated and presented at a ½-day Connecting People with Nature meeting with USFWS partners in Anchorage this week. She and other Fish & Game staff from around the state were invited to report on community coalitions working to get youth outdoors and involved in outdoor activities. Carmen gave a PowerPoint presentation on the history and activities of Nature Rocks Homer, our community coalition of which she is chairperson, and shared the Kids in Nature Workshop Toolkit for community organizers with Fish & Wildlife staff from various offices and refuges in Alaska.

Carmen began to add Homer-specific information related to outdoor youth / family activities and community partners who provide outdoor opportunities for youth and families to the newly created Get Outdoors Alaska website. She also participated in a statewide meeting to plan strategies for launching and outreaching this new site.
