New Water Monitoring Buoy in Bear Cove

New Bear Cove Buoy brings Water Information

Have you seen the new buoy in Bear Cove?   Kachemak Bay Research Reserve has teamed up with our community monitoring program for marine invasive species and harmful algal blooms, our National Estuarine Research Reserve water quality monitoring program, and a new grant to continue hydrographic monitoring in Kachemak Bay and lower Cook Inlet to capture and provide data on marine conditions within Bear Cove.  This buoy will transmit information on current (real-time) water temperature, salinity, and Chlorophyll levels which will be available with the click of a mouse!  The buoy is a part of a long term monitoring program for marine conditions within Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet and is one of several stationary water condition monitoring stations within the area.  For more information see our website http://cdmo.baruch.sc.edu/  or if you have questions, please feel free to contact us: Angela Doroff, Research Coordinator Kachemak Bay Research Reserve.  (907) 226-4654, angela.doroff@alaska.gov.
