Wild Country, Wild Rivers, Wild Fish: Rafting, Fishing and Adventuring on the Rivers of Togiak Wilderness Area

October 23, 2014

KBRR and Lake Clark National Park hosted a brown bag lunch lecture celebrating the 50th anniversary of the national Wilderness Act. River adventurer Poppy Benson shared her stories about wild times on wild rivers in southwestern Alaska.

Poppy Benson, veteran of 10 float trips on the fish-rich rivers of Southwest Alaska, shared her stories of big country, big fish, big bears and more on the Togiak, Goodnews and Kannectok rivers in the Togiak Wilderness Area within the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge.  She explained how to put together a private river trip or find a guide, costs, gear, weather forecasts,  and more.

Poppy Benson is a life-long river runner and is finding more time for trips since her retirement last spring from the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. She has lived in Homer since 1988.

An archive of the seminar slides and audio can be viewed below. Please note, due to technical difficulties, the audio is sub-optimal.
